Among the eastern districts of Gujarat, Vadodara is one of the most significant districts. All the administrative works are organized and operated from the city of Baroda which is in the western region of the district. The area covered by this district is around seven thousand seven hundred ninety four square kilometers.

The district of Vadodara is bordered by Dahod and Panchmahal districts on the northern side, Kheda and Anand in the western side and Narmada and Bharuch in the southern side. The eastern boundary of this district is shared with the state of Madhya Pradesh. The main River in this district is the river Mahi. Baroda, the administrative capital of the district has been a princely state under the famous Bombay Presidency.

Vadodara, in later part of history, has become an important region for Jainism. In the early history this region was dominated by the Hindus but during the Muslim dynasty it became under the power of the Mughals.

Being the cosmopolitan district of the state, Vadodara has the famous MS University with popular museums and palaces like Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum. The majority population in the city is Hindus followed by Muslims.
