Namik Glacier
The Namik glacier is located in the district of Pithogarh in Uttarkhand, India. The word Namik implies a location where salty water springs exist. This glacier is placed at the altitude of 11800ft that is 3600m at Kumaon Himalayas. Namik glacier acts as the point of supply for the river Ram Ganga.
Geology
This glacier is enclosed by the zenith of Nanda Devi which extends 7848 meters, Nanda Kot which extends for 6861 meters, and Trishuli which extends for 7120 Meters. This glacier endures on old Indo-Tibet route. It is established at the small town in Namik and Gogina. Surrounded by glacier, there are number of springs known as sulphur springs and waterfalls.
Tourism
The way for trekking to this Namik glacier goes through the Himalayan terrain, embellished with enchant high altitude vegetation. During the long journey, people fight various big and small water falls and sulphur springs that come into being from the glacier. The spellbinding long journey to Namik initiates at Munsiyari, which also bears the fundamental camp for this increasing speed of trekking. For reaching Senar Gad meadows, it follows a distance of 7 kms from Munisiyari. The eye-catching seen of Panch Chuli would definitely be fascinating to see. From this range, an 11km long journey will take to Dhaldauk and further long journey will take to Sudamkhan and from this the further trek for Himani glacier which extends for 9 km will take place and further 5 km will make us reach at Namik Glacier.
How to Reach
There is a road namely, Sama Liti through which you can reach the glacier by trekking from Gogina. From Bageshwar it extends for about 63kms. For conveyance there are jeeps which could be hired from Kapkot till Gogina.
