Milam Glacier
Kumaon Himalaya comprises of greatest glacier namely Milam glacier, which is situated in Munisiyari and also a significant part of Pithoragarh, India. It extends for about 15 km northeast in Nanda Devi. Its area extends from about 18000ft to about 12700 ft. Its length would be 16 km and conceals around 37km. Milam glacier was closed in year 1962 and was then reopened in year 1994 and thereby was a setback for visitors and trekkers alike. It is now considered as one of the famous among trekkers.
Tourism
The appropriate time to call upon the glacier starts between March to May. When in the month of June monsoons decline, this heralds the danger of blocking of roads and land slides. It is Munisiyari from which the trekking for Milam glacier initiates. This glacier is located in the south of principal Himalayan range. Milam glaciers have their origination from eastern Trishuli and southern Kohli. The secondary ones transpire the zenith of Hardeol, Mangraon which extends for about 6568m, Deo Damla which extends for about 6637m and Sakram which extends for 6254m on the border of eastern Nanda Devi sanctuary which flows from the west and to call upon the eastern side it is fed upon the glaciers of Nanda pal and Nanda Gond. This Glacier extends for about 6306m and 6254 m respectively. Its village is located in near by the nose of the Munisiyari glacier which considerably down the Goriganga valley founds the base for trekking to glacier.
