Chhena Poda
Brief Description
Chenna poda is a sweet treats from India and more popular in western parts of India. Chhena Poda is also called as cheese cake. The term literally means burnt cheese in oriya. Chhena poda is very easy to make at home, it is made of fresh homemade chhena (cottage cheese), raisins and cashew nuts, sugar, and baked slowly in earthen fire for few hours till the browns. In India, Chhena poda is one and only well known dessert whose flavor is predominantly derived from the caramelization of sugar.
Preparation Time Minutes -10-15 Cook Time Minutes - 15-30 Serves Pieces - 4 Ingredients For Chhena Poda
- Part skim ricotta cheese -2 lbs
- Sooji - 3 tbs
- Sugar - 13 to 15 tbsp
- Raisins - 15 to 20
- Cashew nuts - 15 to 20
- Small green cardamoms - 3 to 4
How to make Chhena Poda
- Take a vessel and mix the ricotta cheese and sooji and knead and blend properly by hand.
- Roast cashew nuts in refined oil or ghee till the little browns.
- Now add the cashew nuts, raisins and cardamom powder in the cheese mixture. Blend it properly.
- Grease the container with some ghee/butter and move the batter into the container.
- Pre-heat the oven at 350 F and bake it for 40-50 minutes till the top turns light brown.
- Taking out the container and cool it completely
- Then cut into pieces and it is ready for serve.
Some Useful Tips
- The Chenna (cottage cheese) should be fresh.
- Before checking of sugar a fork can be used, should be clean. Fork will always have a layer of syrup sticking to it.
- You can also use maida besides of sooji maida.
- A deep container increase the baking time.
