History
It was in late 12th century that Sikandhar Badshah, Jeddah’s Governor paid a visit to India, particularly to Tamil Nadu accompanied by Hazrat Sultan Syed Ibrahim Shaheed Badshah. He settled at Erwadi all the way from Madinah.
Badshah Sultan Ibrahim Shaheed, then settled at Erwadi, was in his pursuit of convincing the King of Madurai to follow Islamic faith. However, when the later did not listen to him, Badshah Shaheed chose to wage a war with him and on winning the war, he placed Hazrat Sultan Sikandhar Badshah to rule Madurai. However, the Pandian King of Madurai was making efforts to form a bigger troupe to fight Arabs, while Badhshah Sikandar, was in his efforts to make people happy by following the basics of Sharia. King Pandian took up the war with Hazrat Sultan Sikandar Badshah Razi, which has been described in Sangam literature. King Pandian captured Madurai, before Hazrat Sultan Syed Ibrahim Badshah could send his force to support the Sultan ruling Madurai.
Having recovered the throne, King Pandian was in constant fear and caution about any attack that would come from Arab forces, particularly those from Erwadi, which place was then known as Bouthiramamanickapattinam. He was in constant search of Hazrat Sikandhar Badhshah Shaheed, during which process one of his soldiers found the Badhusha in Tirupparankundram caves, where he was immersed in his prayers to Allah and killed him on the spot. The soldier who killed Badhusha when he was in Prayers, became instantly blind and repented for his action. Accepting his apology and repentance, forgiving his action, Hazrat Mustajab Ad Dua Sikandhar Badusha gave back the Soldier his vision. Seeing the miracle, those men of Pandian’s army carried out the funeral of Hazrat Sultan Sikandhar Badhshah at the top of Tirupparankundram hill following Islamic regulations. Irrespective of the faith one follows, members of all religions, particularly those who visit Erwadi Dargah, pay a visit to the Dargah of Sultan Sikandhar at Tirupparankundram caves.
People visiting Erwadi Dargah and this Dargah find that devotee's wishes come true very soon. Therefore, Sikandhar Badhshah is called Mustajab ad Du'aa Sikandhar Badshah. Mustajab Ad Du'aa in Arabic, which means, ‘saint who's Prayers are immediately answered by Allah.’
