Darga E Gaffaria
The Dargah-e-Gaffaria is a famous mausoleum is established in honour of the enlightened Sufi Saint Hazrat Syed Abdul Gaffar Shakhadri rahamatullahalaihi and it is situated in Kamalapuram town in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh, India.
This holy Muslim shrine is also known as Badi dargah or pedda dargah in Telegu as referred by the local people.
In this Dargah at Kamalapuram, famous URS festival is celebrated every year for which people from all parts of the country join and makes the celebrations grand. The entire town wears a festive look during these 2-3 days of the year, when this celebration goes on.
History
A dargah is a Persian term depicting a Sufi shrine built on the grave of a respectable religious person, mostly a Sufi saint. It is customary for the local Muslims visit such shrines known as Ziarat. Dargahs are generally associated with venues for the Sufi saints to meet and stay and they are known as Khanqah. The Dargahs often encompass a mosque, meeting halls, educational centres (madrassas), also a place to be used as the residence for a teacher or caretaker. Some Dargahs include hospitals and other community utility spaces. The Persian term Dargah means, among other interpretations, "portal" or "threshold". Many belonging to Muslim faith sincerely believe that dargahs are portals in which they will be able to invoke a deceased saint's intercession and obtain his blessings.
The Dargah-e-Gaffaria houses the mausoleum of five Sufi saints who are
- Hazrat Syed Abdul Gaffar Shakhadrirahamatullahalaihi
- Hazrat Syed Dastagir Shakhadri rahamatullahalaihi
- Hazrat Syed Khader Mohiuddin Shakhadri rahamatullahalaihi
- Syedanoorunnisasahebarz and
- Hazrat Syed Zahiruddin Shakhadri
These Sufi Saints lived their lives with great admiration from people because they were embodiments of love, devotion and amity, treating everyone as equal and without any bias for anybody because of their place of origin, how they are dressed up, what language they spoke or even to which faith they belong to. This Dargah frequently sends messages to people on spirituality, integrity and harmony for the benefit of the people of the world. Many people from various walks of life make it a point to visit this mausoleum regularly, including members from castes and creed other than that of Islam faith. This way, this Dargah maintains an atmosphere of serenity and peace, which are the main characteristics of a Khanqah, a monastery.
As at present, His holiness Peer-o-Murshid Syedi al sheik Zahiruddin shakhadri is taking care of the Dargah-e-Gaffaria as the Sajjadanasheen.
Among the important observations, Urus-e-Shareef is an event celebrated every year in Dargah-e-Gaffaria according to the lunar Calendar, which comes mostly in March ending or April beginning.
How to Reach
To reach Darga e Gaffaria at Kamalapuram on has to travel 24.7 km from its District main city Cuddappa and 310 km from its Hyderabad, the capital city of Andhra Pradesh.
Kamalapuram has a railway station and also well connected by Road. Cuddappa is reachable by road, rail and air, a Railway Station and Cuddappa Airport facilitating the travel.
