Mizoram Tuirial Dam
Tuirial Dam is one of the most important dams of Mizoram located in Kolasib district on Tuirial River. This dam is a naturally build reservoir which has a capacity to store the water for more than 1032TMC. This dam was constructed in the year 2004. This dam also supplies fresh drinking water to the surrounding populated area.
History
This dam was the dream project of NEEPCO and the work of construction got hampered during 2004 as TCCCA (Tuirial Crop Compensation Claimant Association) pointed out some of the ambiguities. The construction of this dam delayed on the official orders. Finally in 2004 the work again started and soon completed. Before halting of the process, maximum portion of construction was completed.
Technical Portion
The banks of this dam are well supported with power plants. Two units for generating the hydro electricity have been installed in this plant with the capacity of 30MW each. This project was also designed by the CCEA (Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs). Approval of 60MW got from the CCEA but due to financial constraint and transportation facility, the project is likely to start function with effect from 2014. The location of this dam is in typically surroundings and to access with the huge and frequent load, it is difficult to reach this dam fir finishing the work. Geographical coordinates for this dam are 24°21′23.41″N92°53′09.69″E. This dam has the height of 74 mtrs and width is 700 mtrs. Feeding point of the dam is Tuirial River. Complete catchment area of this dam is 1860 KM. 2 Turbines of 30W each have been installed in this station.
