Madhya Pradesh Rajghat Dam
Rajghat dam is located in the border line of two states of India namely Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. This dam is located near Chanderi district in Madhya Pradesh and Lalitpur district of Uttar Pradesh. Distance of this dam is 14 Kilometers from Chanderi and 22 Kilometers from Lalitpur. Dimension of this dam is in rectangular shape and this is constructed over Betwa River. Approximate benefited area from this dam is 1,380 SQKM in U.P. and 1,210 SQKM in Madhya Pradesh. This dam has also a power generation plant with a capacity of 45 MW. It has already been decided that the cost of construction of dam and power plant will be shared by both the states on equal basis irrespective of affected irrigated area and electricity consumption. This dam is one of the biggest irrigation supporting dam in Madhya Pradesh.
History
Construction of this dam was started in 1975 and after facing a lot of technical, political and financial hurdles, finally the completion done in 2006. Geographical coordinates of this dam are 24°45′46″N 78°14′02″E and are fit for natural flow of water. This dam was conceptualized alongwith the Matatila, Parichha and Dhukwan Dam project in Uttar Pradesh. Location and circumstances found in this area are closer than other dams. There were some protests in the starting of construction but soon after the intervention of governments of both the states, the disputes were got solved and work against attained progress. Farmers of the area were protesting against the administration only because of losing their lands and less compensation they got in return. The matter was considered sympathetically and high court ordered to compensate more to the concerned land owners. Another installment of the compensation was paid and then the matter resolved. Technical assistance in construction of this dam was also sought from foreign and after all in 2006 the completion of this dam was done.
Technical Portion
This dam is 43.80 mtrs high from normal ground level. Length of this dam is 562.50mtr. This dam is also supported by another earthen dam of 29.5 mtr height and 10.79 kilometers length. Total irrigated area from this dam has been estimated as 1380 SQKM in Uttar Pradesh and 1210 SQKM in Madhya Pradesh. In this dam a power generation plant is also located with the capacity of 45MW hydro electricity. To achieve the target, 3 units of 15 MW capacities each have been installed at this plant. According to treaty between the two states, all the expenditure done on establishment of this plant will be shared equally. 23.65mtr thick wall has been made at this dam to take the load of huge water storage.
Attraction
This dam is also developed as a picnic spot. Major facility at this dam is presence of a sound connectivity through various means of transportation. Tourism departments of both the states have also developed some recreational points at this dam to enhance the tourism. Boating facility and water scooting are available here.
