Kabirdham (earlier known as Kawardha) district has the Kawardha town as its headquarters. It is considered as an important administrative district of Chhattisgarh.

History:

On 2nd July, 1998 the Madhya Pradesh Government decided to declare Kawardha as a new district by the combination of Kawardha tehsilof the Rajnandgaon district and the Pandariya tehsilof the Bilaspur district. The district has been renamed as Kabirdham.

Demographics:

Kawardha district is situatedin-between 21.32° to 22.28° north latitudes and 80.48° to 81.48° east longitudes. This district is covered in an area of 4634.98 sq. km.

Geographically:

The district shares its border with Dindori district in the north, Bilaspur and Durg district in the east, Rajnandgaon to the south and Balaghat district in the west. The district is surrounded on the north and west by the Maikal mountain ranges of Satpura.

Culture:

Kawardha still maintains the overall cultural heritage of Chhattisgarh. The tribal community of Baigaand Gond has settled extensively in this district. The tribals’ traditional practiceand customs can be seen here. The hamlets of these tribes are located in the middle of forestswhich lie to the southernmostpart of the city of Jabalpur.
