Nagrota Cantonment

Nagrota Cantonment comes under the  62 military Cantonments of India, which is situated  at  Nagrota, Jammu District of J & K State of India,  where the XVI Corps of the Indian Army  was raised on June 1, 1972, IX Corps (India) having  been  raised  in 2005 here within the XVI Corps' area, assigning  two of its divisions, while today the XVI Corps of the Indian Army  covers and oversees the 10th Infantry Division (India), based at Akhnoor, 25th Infantry Division, based at Rajauri and 39th Infantry Division, headquartered at Yol.

There is a Gurudwara at Nagrotra called Gurdwara Singh Sabha

As per the Census report of 2001, Nagrota Cantonment carries a population of 19,998 people, while the twin town of Kashmiri Migrants, Jagti, has a population of 2786.

History

Nagrota Cantonment has been established to host a number of Military installations, in Jammu and Kashmir State, closer to Jammu City, adjoining the Kashmiri Pandit Migrant town of Jagti, right on the National Highway NH1A, incidentally the first shrine stoppage for the pilgrims heading towards Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, with Kol-Kandoli temple situated here, also the extended area of Jammu’s Industrial activities, housing Oil Depots and Godowns.

How to Reach Nagrota Cantonment

Nagrota Cantonment can  be reached by Road, buses plying across this Cantonment town, which lies in 8 km from Jammu city on the National Highway No. 1A (NH1A) and as  a traveler can proceeds from Jammu northwards heading Udhampur, on one’s way to Srinagar, Nagrata Cantonment comes within 10 km, while  the whole of Nagrota spread out, on either side of the highway , wheras there is no Rail transport available to reach  Nagrota Cantonment, Nagrota Cantonment not having a railway station, while interestingly it has a Railway Station Code assigned - NGRT.

By air, one can reach this place either from Jammu Airport or Srinagar Airport.

Facilities

Nagrota Cantonment has the basic amenities for living, with adequate arrangements for the travellers going to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine to take rest before proceeding further.

There are ATM facilities established by Axis Bank at Awwa Shopping Complex in Nagrota Army Garrison
