Delhi Cantonment

Delhi Cantonment, being one of the 63 Cantonments of India, is also part of National Capital Region of Delhi, as one of the three statutory towns, with a population of 1.2 million, managed by Delhi Cantonment Board, a specially constituted for administering Cantonment area, while other bodies like Delhi Municipal Corporation also attend to its needs, where both military and civil population reside.

History

When British organised its residential for the Army personnel in India, the Cantonments in Delhi and Ahmedabad were the first ones to be formed, now Delhi Cantonment housing the Army Headquarters for Delhi Area, besides few other establishments such as Army Golf Course, Defence Services Officers Institute, Army and Air Force Public Schools, besides providing residential facility for Army personnel, this location also having a Railway Station connecting all the destinations of the country by railroad.

Delhi Cantonment shines as an example for Military cantonments in India, providing good residential and living facilities, where membership in Defence Services Officers’ Institute is offered to the present and past defence personnel, who are mostly the residents of the Delhi Cantonment.

How to Reach Delhi Cantonment

Delhi National Capital region  being a vast area, Delhi City itself grouped into various parts, Delhi Cantonment is situated in the southwest part at Janakpuri, which is closer to the Airport, and other residential areas such as Dwarka, Tilak Nagar, Daula Kuan, Naraina, Vasant Vihar, etc, the Cantonment having a huge Railway Station connecting trains heading towards Rajasthan and Gujarat regions primarily, with Metro Station of Janakpuri/Tilaknagar close by, this place is approachable easily by train, bus, taxi, and all the modes of transport, while reaching Delhi by Air from any part of the world is possible through its Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Facilities

Delhi Cantonment houses a Defence Services Officers’ Institute which is equipped with a comprehensive CSD Canteen, like few other military establishments in the country, which has three distinct sections, one for supply of alcoholic drinks, the next for groceries for residential users and the third for sale of high value items, while this outlet provides restaurant facilities for the members to dine.

There is a Bank functioning in the premises, with ATM outlet, which is serviced by Syndicate Bank, besides various facilities are provided here such as Men’s parlour, apart from various avenues for sports and recreation.
