Bangalore Cantonment
Bangalore Cantonment is part of Bangalore City today, however it was a military Cantonment covering 13 square miles, making it the largest British Military cantonment in Southern part of India, the British garrison then including three batteries of artillery, with regiments of infantry, mounted infantry, cavalry, sappers, etc and also supply of corps called Bangalore Rife Volunteers, when British raj was holding direct control on the Cantonment area and administration, the rest of the region held by the Kingdom of Mysore, however in later period, precisely after Independence of India, this area got merged with the Main Bangalore City and common municipal administration came to practice.
History
British found Bangalore a pleasant station with its cool climate and chose to establish their cantonment, a term which is derived from French word Canton to mean district or comer, while they had their garrison earlier at Seringapatnam of Mysore State, going into the structure of a proper cantonment by forming a Parade Ground, constructing the Civil and Military station around that Parade ground, which process drew lots of migrants from Tamil nadu and other neighbouring towns of Mysore state, making major changes in the township, first naming it as Bangalore from what it was Bengaluru, naming its streets and alleys with British Military Terms such as Artillery Road, Brigade road, Cavalry road, Infantry road etc, establishing a Municipal corporation there in 1863, while after Independence in 1947, the Bangalore Cantonment area was merged with the main Bangalore City area.
How to Reach Bangalore Cantonment
Bangalore Cantonment is right in the midst of Bangalore City, enabling one to reach there with all the means of transport, with abundance of taxis and auto rickshaws waiting at all the points of the city, while one can reach Bangalore by Air, Rail or Road from any part of India, and the Globe by direct flights, this cantonment is quickly reachable at anytime of the year.

Bangalore Municipal Corporation to take care of the facilities of Bangalore Cantonment became no longer relevant after the cantonment area was merged with Bangalore City area, the Corporation merging with the Bangalore Pete Corporation thus forming a bigger Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, which is the overall Bangalore City Corporation, which offer all and every facility of a City on all dimensions, besides Bangalore Cantonment Rail Station itself has become a popular and public Railway station for all commuters with no exclusive privilege for the Military or Army personnel perse.
