Ahmedabad Cantonment
Ahmedabad Cantonment is a Military cantonment town situated in the Shahibaug area of Ahmedabad, in Gujarat state, established in 1824CE, by the British India, the cantonment maintaining its own infrastructure for water supply, electricity etc keeping itself away from the jurisdiction of Ahmedabad's civil administration.
Ahmedabad being the largest city of Gujarat and also its former capital, principal organisations such as the High Court is still functioning there, the city located on the banks of Sabarmati, was formed in 1411CE by Sultan Ahmed Shah as the capital of the Gujarat Sultanate, with his name given for the City.
History
Archaeological studies reveal that Ahmedabad region has been inhabited since the 11th century, with the calling Ashaval, ruled by Solanki kingdom, later acquired by Sultan Ahmed Shah in 1411CE.
Mughals ruling this region with Ahmedabad as the Capital, gave in to Marathas in 1758CE, the Peshwa of Poona belonging to the latter getting into conflict with the Gaekwad of Baroda, faced the First Anglo Maratha War, however British force chose to give back the ruler ship to Marathas at the end of the war, but East India Company taking possession of Ahmedabad in 1818CE.
While the Ahmedabad cantonment was established in 1824CE, the municipal governance came up in 1858CE.a railway link constructed between Ahmedabad and Mumbai in 1864CE, establishing commercial activities with other parts of India.

Air
The new Ahmedabad Air Port at Magdalla which is in Operation since 2011 has air connectivity with direct flights from all air destinations of India, besides flights to neighbouring countries like Dubai, via Mumbai.
Rail
Ahmedabad railway station coming under Western Railway zone of the Indian Railways, has connectivity with all rail destinations of India, superfast trains having schedules here, rail travel to Ahmedabad is preferred by travellers from all parts of India.
Road
The Golden Quadrilateral highway system passing through Ahmedabad, which is well connected to the National HighwaysNH8, NH 6 and NH228, with frequent public transport buses plying all the 24 hours, reaching Ahmedabad by road is also possible.
Demographics
As per 2001 Census of India , Ahmedabad Cantonment ‘s population is 14,713, of which Males constitute 60% and females 40%, maintaining an average literacy rate of 81%, which is higher than the national average , 12% of the population being children under 6 years of age.
