Upper Siang is a main region amongst 16 regions of Arunachal Pradesh State. The capital of this district is Yingkiong..This district is occupied by Adi, Memba, Khamba and Idu Mishmi tribes who live in harmony with each other lap of life from a very long period enjoying vibrant celebrations and rites like Solung, Aran, Reh, Lossar, Dihang, etc.

Upper Siang is a hilly region gifted with wealthy innate assets and bio variety, cavernous canyons and speedy gushing streams and rivers, which shape the streams of the powerful Siang River. It flows through the region moving addicted to threshold of India at a tip close to Gelling at India and China boundary

In 1967, Govt. of India approved the NEFA Panchayati Raj Regulation Act that confirmed the Traditional Village Councils, the position of Gram Panchayat with the Agency Council at the Apex Level of the Panchayati Raj. In 1980, the Siang Region was divided into East Siang and West Siang regions. The current area of Upper Siang stayed under East Siang district with its control centre at Pasighat. This Union Territory was given statehood on 20th February, 1987. At last, in 1994, Upper Siang was engraved-out of East Siang region with its control centre at Yingkiong.
