Non Hindus Seek Special Permission to Enter Somnath Temple
Implementation of existing clause of Trust Deed
Somnath temple, one of the 12 jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, lies on the Saurashtra Coast of Arabian Sea. Run by Shree Somnath Trust, the Somnath Mahadev Temple is considered as one of the sacred places of worship by Hindus. The Temple Trustees have now started following the clause in Trust deed where in the Trust is vested with powers to administer the entrance of people seeking Somnath Temple Darshan. By virtue of this clause, the General Manager is authorized to grant permission to non-Hindus entering the temple for non-religious purposes. This is not a new rule, but implementation of an existing rule more strictly. As per the Trustees, the Hindus have right to maintain and manage the religious places and seeking permission is similar to the rule of covering heads at certain places of worship.
Concerns on Non-Hindus in Somnath Temple addressed
Apparently there have been numerous concerns about the rising number of non-Hindus entering the premises for Somnath Temple Darshan and since the security personnel change often, the temple authorities have put up message on Notice boards at entrance as well as at the Digvijay Dwar.
The Trustees of Somnath Mahadev Temple include four nominees of State government equal number of nominees from Central Government. The current Board of Trustees consists of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Keshubhai Patel, L K Advani and other veterans of industry.
