Located in the north east of Hyderabad, administered by the Warangal district, Warangal is a combination of the three cities Warangal, Henamakonda and Kazipet.

During 12th to 14th century, Warangal was ruled by Kakatiya dynasty. Its old name was Orugallu and during Kaktiya dynasty it was their capital city. Warangal was ruled by Qutab Shahi of Golconda and also the Nizam ruled the district. Monuments, impressive fortress, four massive stone gateways, Swayambhu temple devoted to the lord Shiva and Ramappa Temple are those historical and religious sites which have become a tourist attraction of Warangal.

Warangal is a part Telanga region in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Although Warangal is the fifth largest city of the mentioned state, it is lagging behind many other districts of the state in terms of education. Katatiya Medical College and National Institute of Technology is among the famous institutions situated in Warangal.

Major Language spoken by the people of the district is Telugu. The culture of Warangal is predominantly rural. Cultural attire is sari, dhoti and other modern dresses.
