Nalgonda is a combination of two Telegu words Nala meaning Black and Konda means Black. Nalgonda is thus called the place of black hills. Rajput rulers assigned the name of Neegiri to this district. Subsequently, Bahamani king Alauddin Bahaman Shah changed the name to Nalgonda. The basic amenities like availability of drinking water, water for irrigation purposes and the education facility were absent at this district. It was one of the most backward districts of the state as well as of India. Gradually the district has progressed and shown some positive development and advancement. The district of Nalgonda has been ruled by numerous rulers and the district of has powerfully endured the devastations of time and human wreckage and till date it has maintained its unspoiled splendor.

Limestone, black and colour granites are obtained in the district.

It covers an area of fourteen thousand two hundred and forty square kilometer. The district has along its borders
