Yelahanka Air Force Station
As an importnart Indian Air Force base, Yelahanka AFS plays a pivotal role for the maintenance and streamlining of security forces from the southern region of the country with its command there to train and keep the Air Forces operations right in order. This is one such Air Force base in the southern state of Karnataka region that involve itself in the several crucial roles including the major one of training the budding pilots for flying the planes used for the transportation purposes.
This airbase is known in the whole country for its extensive involvement in the pilot trainings but a few more roles which it plays are equally notable ones. History
Having been established on August 01, 1963 with the key purpose to start training sessions the Central Government took the major step to establish Yelahanka AFS that proved remarkable step for the future needs. The idea was to develop it into an airbase which could prove supportive as premier training institution to operate in the country. Such aims have already been achieved as this airbase now operates to cater to the air training needs which Air Force Academy and Air Force Technical College keep planning and carry out as routine practices to develop proper system in the air trainings.
Other unique purposes for which this airbase had been developed were to turn this station into an air station that could undertake all sorts of logistics supports an d the related tasks which had been allotted to this airbase. Several types of air shows are conducted here on regular intervals and equally are the attractions of Yelahanka AFS for the typical training categories and associated activities. As the region at which this airbase locates do geographically coordinate at 13°8'19"N 77°36'1"E, the establishment of Yelahanka AFS proved an impressive idea indeed to continue with the training sessions and to strengthen Air Forces in all respects.
An added advantage with this airbase is that it is very much close to the Bangalore International Airport which is mere 17 kilometers from the airbase. It being one of the exclusive Air Force Training centers remain an ultimate airbase in this region which supports the southern command and does coordinate with the rest airfields or airbases as well for the joint operations to operations if any for the nation’s security purpose. The main purpose though remains the pilot training for which this airbase had been developed and is constantly improved over the period.
Runways
Yelahanka AFS operates with its modern runway that can handle all sorts of pilot trainings and similar such activities. The runway was developed and modernized thereafter to ensure all desired services could continue without any interruption. It has proved worthwhile with the regular improvements which keep this airbase apart in the whole region.
