Sirsa Air Force Station

Located in India’s Haryana state which had been carved out from Punjab while the country began its state re-organization process, the emerging airfield named Sirsa AFS remains one of the major Air Force training bases in this region where both training and fighter operations have been arranged since its inception. The nearby cantonment of Bathinda has key support to this airbase. This airbase is located at very close to the Sirsa town of Haryana on whose name this airfield was named.

Geographically Sirsa AFS coordinates at 29°33'46"N 75°0'19"E and so is this Air Force station an important location in the region to maintain the Indian forces for their training and operations. The Air Forces ready them for all types of rescue operations and or to maintain the internal security of the country besides keeping vigil on the possible external threats.

History

Having been developed to strengthen the Indian Air Forces under proper system and through managing its trainings and operations as part of the nation-wide steps to setup the airbases on various locations, the establishment of Sirsa AFS has definitely remained an important step by the Indian Government to empower the Air Forces from the Punjab and Haryana region for which effective measures have been incorporated.

Sirsa AFS had been given the status of a medium airport status while it had been established. This airport though mainly operates as an airbase owned and operated by the Air Forces with main involvement in the trainings. This airbase hadn’t been opened for the general public as commercial operation wasn’t permitted from here to keep the forces aside from general air operations here.

Closest airports from the Ludhiana Airport located at a distance of 170 kilometers and the Chandigarh Airport at a distance of mere 211 kilometers necessitated for it to remain confined for the armed forces operation only. Both the civilian airports located close to it do operate for the general masses. Nearness of the two airports used for commercial operation has almost kept Sirsa AFS free from being used for the commercial operation. That is why this airbase is an exclusive one for the India’s Air Forces only and remains confined for the training purposes.

Runways

Lone runway at Sirsa AFS paves the way for the training and fighter jet operations at this airbase which Air Forces operate. This runway has been modernized by keeping in view the different types of Air Force training sessions and to keep the forces involved and ready for any casualty or warlike situation.

Units at Sirsa AFS

Full-fledged Units which operate from Sirsa AFS does mainly focus on the regular trainings and so does it monitor the armed forces especially Air Forces of India which have been strategically spread to almost all parts of the country. Sirsa AFS is one such training center in the Punjab and Haryana region from where its several Units operate to involve in the multiple training sessions to maintain the forces and the internal security of country.

Kendriya Vidyalayas

As training remains the main concentration in Sirsa AFS, this airbase has been well planned and developed strategically for all sorts of trainings. Such purposes are the important factors behind the creation of Kendriya Vidyalas which had been opened to operate and ensure that thorough system is maintained through them. They play key roles to keep this airbase into limelight.
