The Pathankot airport (IATA: IXP,ICAO: VIPK) is basically a military airport situated in Pathankot in the district of Pathankot in the Indian state of Punjab. Usually, the Indian air Force uses the airfield here. The Nos 26 as well as 108 Squadrons do operate from this airfield under Western Air Command control and No. 18 Wing IAF. There at Pathankot, they have been flying Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 fighter aircraft. There are a number of squadrons situated here so they are guarded heavily. The airport of Pathankot is located inside the cantonment of IAF.

In recent past, there are commercial flights which have begun here thereby linking it with places such as Delhi and Kulu.

History

The Airport of Pathankot was inaugurated by Mr. Praful Kumar at Pathankot on November 21, 2006. The service of this airport is limited to the national flights only and there are no international flights running yet. The air force station of Pathankot houses 18 wings.

There is a famous place at Pathankot known as Wall of Silence. As per the history, it was found to be the forefront of action in the conflict of 1965 as well as 1971 conflict. The memorial of station, Wall of Silence, is regarded as a thoughtfully designed memorial listing the names of aircrew who lost their lives in line of duty be it at the peacetime or at the time of war.

Air Force School, Pathankot

The Air Force School of Pathankot, is one of the premier institutions whose target is to develop an educational design for promoting maximum growth of the students and train them to accept the challenges so that they may become thoughtful, competent, contributing to the country.

The need of solid foundation is recognized for constructing the future of the students here. The efforts are made to encourage students for becoming logical, curious, creative and talented.

The location of school is such that it comprises of a permanent building that engrosses three-acre land. There is adequate land for school for developing its infrastructure as well as accommodating a large number of students. This permanent building of school got commissioned under the approval of Admin through Air HQ vide Air HQ/36020/180/W-1. It took place on 12th Aug 1986.

At present the strength of students here is 725 while the classes found are from LKG to XII standard. The affiliation of the school is from CBSE vide Letter No. SE/Aff./1630040/2004/1154 dated 27 Jan 2004.

The well trained faculty members or the staff along with good teaching aids helps the student to improve his acumen and become a potential student for the bright future of the country. As per the guidelines of HQ WAC followed by school, the uniforms of students are designed accordingly be it boys or girls during summer or winter sessions.besides the academic performance, the extra- curricular activities are also emphasized here and to suffice the purpose, there are spacious playgrounds meant for Volley ball, basket ball, 03 badminton courts etc.
