Bamrauli air force base serves Allahabad airport which is located in the city of Allahabad, UP, India. The distance of which is 12 kms from the city of Allahabad and do its operations for domestic flights. The other nearest operational airports is Kanpur, Luck now and Varanasi.

The two flights currently operating from this airport are air India regional’s to Delhi. Currently the airport does not have the facility of night landing but in the future the system would be installed as an element of upgrading the airport. In the year 2011 the airport has installed DME (Distance Measuring Equipment) and  VOR (Very High Frequency Omni Range) as a part of up gradation.

Structure

The airport of Allahabad is in 1 acre having the terminal capacity of 50 for both the purpose of arrival and departure. It’s a civil commune. The adjacent concrete measures 500 by 150 meters and has two bays of parking to cater to CRJ and concurrently one ATR aircraft. The runway is 8125 meters long and is oriented 12/30,It is having a width of 150 meters. The airfield is also equipped with Navigational facilities like an NDB or DVOR/DME and Instrument Landing System (ILS)

Central Air Command

The central air command is known as one of the five operational commands of the Indian air force.On 27th may in the year 1958 it had its commencement as number 1 operational group at the region of Ranikutir in Calcutta as a part of government’s increasing stress on defense of the borders of east. Its headquarter currently is in Allahabad in UP.On 19th march 1962, the restructuring of this operational group was created this command having headquarters at Rani Kuthee in Calcutta. For the central Air Command headquarters, Calcutta was considered as an inappropriate location. From Delhi to Bengal central air command controls all the central India operations.With the establishment of the southern air command this command was reduced in size.

The command has its permanent airbases at Gorakhpur, Agra, Allahabad, Bareilly, Kanpur, Gwalior and Nagpur. It has air defense squadrons including the MiG-21 and Mirage 2000.  The aircraft like the long range heavy lift IL-76MD, the IAF's workhorse - the An-32, and the Dornier Do-228 which are used in the role of utility are associated with the main command of transport.
